In 1998 a friend gave me my
first black Hallmark ornament. I had never considered collecting them,
matter of fact I didn't know anything about them. The ornament was the
first in the "All God's Children" series, next Christmas, another friend
gave me the second one in that series without knowing that I had the first
one, so I felt compelled to purchase the next one and I was hooked.
I then began looking for all the ones that I had missed
from previous years and made sure to purchase the current years ornaments as
soon as they were released. I do not collect sports figures, but you
will find them listed on this site, because my goal is for this site to be
an complete list of all Black Hallmarks. The other sites that I have
visited do not list all Black or AA ornaments and I know if I had found such
a site in the beginning of my collecting endeavor, it would have simplified
things for me.
Truthfully, I have had a wonderful time trying to
complete my collection and each year it grows by leaps and bounds.
Hallmark began it's black ornaments in 1979 and some years only two
ornaments were created and then in other years, the bounty is great, with
about six ornaments being created. At one time it seemed as if Hallmark was
trying to stop creating black ornaments, but in last couple of years, they
have created more than a couple, which is really good. I am not an
expert on Hallmarks and don't confess to knowing a whole lot, but Clara
Scroggins has written numerous books about Hallmarks Keepsake Collectibles
and although she writes about all ornaments, she is African American.
Hopefully, we will also be able to create a
community where those interested can communicate with each other without
having to search the World Wide Web. If I have left out any
ornaments, please send a picture and the information to the address below or
complete the form on the addition page.
I welcome suggestions and feedback.
Thank you,
Romaine Richardson
